This world was adorned, blessed, enriched and turned upside down
by the grand arrival of our very own
Moira Scout Eagar
on April 25th, 2000

Yes….it was a dark and stormy night…
(it really was!)
-literally and figuratively speaking.
She came into our lives with a great clap of thunder
and rush of howling wind.
And, we like to say it’s been storming ever since.
We knew she would need courage and imagination to survive our roiling tempest.
We hoped she would forgive us for leaving her long hours-
with (incredibly brave) women (Havalah and Gretel)
who were just NOT mother-
mere days after she was born.
***
We still sing these words to her:
“Baby Mine, don’t you cry.
Baby Mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
never to part…Baby of Mine.”
…every night.
***
We think she may have forgiven us…or has she?

The storm is there still…in her eyes,
imprinted for life,
dormant…
…until some far away day when the world needs saving-
and only a perfect storm can triumph.
Some say she takes after her mother (I beg your pardon!)
Maybe so, but I believe she is stronger and more true to herself than I ever was.
I see her quivering with imagination,
ready to leap out of her skin and conquer the world…
…and it terrifies me.

“My unfulfilled ambition is to write a great novel in three parts
about my adventures.
I’ve yet to have them, but they will be perfectly thrilling.”
-Wendy Moira Angela Darling

“Real courage is when you know you’re licked before you begin,
but you begin anyways and see it through no matter what.”
-Scout Finch

“I don’t have many real friends, but the ones I have count for extra.”
-Moira Scout Eagar

Scout, we adore you and your spark for art and music and nature and life.
We know you are destined for only the greatest of adventures.
Our fondest hope is to see you discover and fulfill the
most precious longings of your soul.
And, should the tempest toss unceasingly-
have courage, Baby Mine…
as you were born to do!
Happy Birthday
Moira Scout!
